The useful content is imported into a dedicated base; your original systems stay where they are. What matters is choosing what goes into the base and what stays out.
Can we change model along the way?
Yes, and that is the point of an open AI platform: the knowledge base does not depend on the model. Changing provider does not undo the work done on the sources.
How many bases should we plan for?
One, to begin with. You separate by audience or by department later, when access rights genuinely differ — not before. Too broad a base dilutes the answers: several well-defined corpora beat one catch-all, even if it takes a little sorting at the start.
